Scorpion and the Fox in Esperanto

The "Scorpion and the Fox" parable from the two-part episode "Scorpion" of the television series "Star Trek: Voyager", first aired in 1997, translated into Esperanto.

The concept of the fable is actually much older, and it is typically referred to as "The Scorpion and the Frog". There is also a version where the frog is a turtle.

Personally, I believe the fox version written by Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky works better because of the more apparent size difference between the animals, and it's more dramatic and therefore more memorable than the turtle version.

Skorpio marŝis kaŭ la bordo de rivero, scivolanta kiel atingi la alian flankon. Subite, li vidis vulpon.

Li petis la vulpon porti lin sur lia dorso trans la rivero. La vulpo diris: "Ne. Se mi faros tion, vi pikos min, kaj mi dronos."

La skorpio certigas al li: "Si mi farus tion, ni ambaŭ dronus."

Do, la vulpo pripensis pri ĝi kaj fine konsentis.

Do, la skorpio grimpis sur lia dorso kaj la vulpo komencis naĝi.

Sed duonvoje trans la rivero la skorpio pikis lin. Dum la veneno plenigis liaj vejnojn, la vulpo turnis sin al la skorpio kaj diris: "Kial vi faris tion? Nun vi ankaŭ dronos."

"Mi ne povis malhelpi ĝin", la skorpio diris.

"Ĝi estas mia naturo."
